Voluntary Standards Cover the Spectrum: From Energy Efficient Telecommunications to Dehumidifying Indoor Pools

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, June 18 -- The American National Standards Institute issued the following news release: In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow: Energy Efficient Telecommunications Improving the energy efficiency and the environmental impact of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector has become increasingly important as the U.S. seeks to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reach national goals of energy independence. To facilitate achieving these goals, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) recently published a new American National Standard (ANS).

ATIS-0600015.07.2013 (http://webstore.ansi.org/RecordDetail.aspx?sku=ATIS-0600015.07.2013), Energy Efficiency for Telecommunication Equipment: Methodology for Measurement and Reporting - Wireline Access, Asymmetric Broadband Equipment, provides definitions, measurement methods, configuration requirements, and guidelines for calculating the Telecommunications Energy Efficiency Ratio (TEER) of associated access equipment. ATIS-0600015.07.2013 is intended to be used by communications network operators, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and test laboratories in conjunction with the ATIS-0600015 (http://webstore.ansi.org/RecordDetail.aspx?sku=ATIS-0600015.+Telecommunications+Energy+Efficiency+Ratio+Package), Telecommunications Energy Efficiency Ratio Package, family of ICT energy efficiency standards.

ATIS, an ANSI-accredited standards developer and organizational member, works to develop ANS, specifications, guidelines, requirements, technical reports, industry processes, and verification tests that support industry-wide interoperability and reliability of telecommunications networks, equipment, and software. ATIS's work underpins the nation's emergency communications system, improves data access, bolsters health care delivery, and supports the availability of interactive sources of entertainment.

Dehumidifying Indoor Pools Indoor pools, hot tubs, and spas are commonly found at water parks, aquatic facilities, homes, hotels, retirement centers, health clubs, and other locations. When water is heated for comfortable swimming and soaking temperatures, a large amount of moisture is released into the enclosed area. This moisture is heavily laden with chlorine and other chemicals and, if left uncontrolled, mold and mildew will eventually permeate the immediate areas and adjoining structures. Therefore, dehumidifying these facilities is vital to maintaining health and safety.

To stabilize room conditions through dehumidification, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (http://www.ashrae.org/) (ASHRAE) recently released ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 190-2013 (http://webstore.ansi.org/RecordDetail.aspx?sku=ANSI%2fASHRAE+Standard+190-2013), Method of Testing for Rating Indoor Pool Dehumidifiers. This ANS applies to indoor pool dehumidifiers using electrically driven, mechanical vapor-compression refrigeration systems consisting of one or more factory-made assemblies that dehumidify and circulate air. ANSI/ASHRAR 190P-2013 prescribes test methods for determining the moisture-removal capacity and efficiency, the pool heating capacity, and the sensible and total cooling capacity for indoor pool dehumidifiers.

ASHRAE, an ANSI organizational member and audited designator, is an international organization that works promote a sustainable world through research, standards, recommended procedures and guidelines, continuing education, and the publishing of technical information.
