New Puzzle & Dragons game to appeal to wider audience: GungHo chief

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) GungHo Online Entertainment Inc. President and CEO Kazuki Morishita says he is hoping a revamped version of the company's widely popular Puzzle & Dragons mobile game will appeal to a wider range of audience ahead of the July 17 release in Japan.

"It will be fun also for those light users who may have thought it was too difficult to grow monsters," Morishita said in an interview with Kyodo News on Wednesday.

The game, commonly called Puzzdra, for smartphones and other devices is a combination of puzzle matching and monster collecting plays. GungHo is planning to allow users to enjoy the puzzle portion only.

Since its release in February 2012, the app was has posted at least 28 million downloads in Japan, 4 million in the United States and Canada, 2 million in South Korea and 1 million in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Existing users "will also be able to enjoy a Puzzdra different than before," after the app is updated, Morishita said.

He also indicated that the game will be updated in overseas markets such as Europe, the United States and South Korea.
