Etisalat Misr and Huawei to Take the Lead in Commercial Deployment of 400G Core Routers in North Africa

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 12 June 2014 Release date- 11062014 - Cairo, Egypt - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, together with Etisalat Misr, a leading mobile operator in Egypt, today announced plans to deploy NE5000E, the 400G core router developed by Huawei, as core nodes for the national IP backbone network (IPBB) in Egypt.

The routers will help build a future-proof, large-bandwidth and highly reliable convergence backbone network, which will satisfy the broadband strategy of Etisalat Misr and the development requirements of broadband services of the Egyptian Ministry of Communication. The commercial deployment of 400G core routers is an important step in promoting the evolution of backbone networks to the 400G ultra-broadband era in North Africa.

Telecommunication services in Egypt have experienced 15% rapid expansion in recent years, promoting swift economic growth. As the third largest operator in Egypt, Etisalat Misr is experiencing strain on the capacity and scalability of its backbone network caused by a surge in demand from an increasing number of customers with growing data service requirements. In response to the broadband development requirements, Etisalat Misr initiated the long-term backbone network development project for capacity expansion and network reconstruction.

Etisalat Misr aims to build a next-generation convergence network platform in Egypt to ensure the sustainable and continuous development of services. Huawei's NE5000E 400G solution was the first to be put into commercial use one year ahead of other vendors, and enables flexible and on-demand deployment of networks. The powerful hardware platform provides 100G/400G/1T/2T slots that ensure smooth capacity expansion. Moreover, the 400G routers are energy-saving, with the lowest power consumption being only half that of the industry average. These features are in line with Etisalat Misr's development strategies and have been a key factor in the ground-breaking cooperation between Etisalat Misr and Huawei on backbone network construction.

'Huawei will utilize its global commercial deployment experience of 400G core routers to provide Etisalat Misr with a converged backbone network solution that supports multi-service access. Based on the innovative chips and software/hardware platform, Huawei's 400G solution provides a large capacity and enables smooth capacity expansion and low power consumption, empowering operators to reduce TCO while meeting the challenges of future network,' said Zha Jun, president of Huawei Fixed Network Product Line.

As a leader in global IP technologies, Huawei carrier IP products and solutions have been deployed by 45 of the world's top 50 telecom operators. According to data from Infonetics, Huawei had the highest growth rate in the global IP market in Q4 2013.

Huawei leads in commercial 400G network deployment globally with more than 80 commercial 400G networks deployed to date, guiding global IP backbone networks into the 400G era.
