Ultrasound Company SuperSonic Imagine Awarded Premier Breakthrough Technology Designation and Selected as 2014 Innovator

AIX-EN-PROVENCE, France --(Business Wire)--

SuperSonic Imagine (Euronext: SSI, FR0010526814), the highly innovative medical imaging company that invented ShearWave™ Elastography, announces that its Aixplorer ultrasound system has been designated as a Breakthrough Technology by Premier, Inc. In addition, Premier has honored SuperSonic Imagine as a 2014 Innovator. Premier is a leading healthcare improvement company, made up of approximately 3,000 U.S. hospitals and 110,000 other healthcare providers.

Premier cited SuperSonic Imagine for its Aixplorer ultrasound system's innovative ShearWave Elastography, a mode which is used worldwide to visualize and quantitatively measure (in kilopascals) tissue stiffness in liver, breast, thyroid, prostate, and a variety of other organs. Tissue stiffness often indicates pathology including cancers.

In its liver application, Aixplorer is used to measure liver stiffness across the different stages of fibrosis. Precise, non-invasive measurement of liver stiffness (kPa) is shifting the diagnostic paradigm in chronic liver disease with potential to change medical procedures for approximately 1 billion people with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and nearly 300 million with the hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Premier selected the Aixplorer system based upon a variety of criteria including its impact on the unmet medical need of staging liver fibrosis non-invasively, reducing the need for biopsies in both the breast and liver, providing a non-invasive method to follow patients during treatment from new HCV drugs as well as the associated benefits this has on medical costs and patient satisfaction.

SuperSonic Imagine was one of 14 companies chosen to receive the 2014 Innovator Award from a field of many candidates.

Durral R. Gilbert, president of supply chain services at Premier stated, We believe these innovations can benefit providers as they work to transform healthcare."

SuperSonic Imagine Director North America Alex Esposito commented, "We are very honored to receive this kind of validation from an important organization like Premier. It means a great deal to our team which has been working very hard to create breakthrough technologies that significantly improve the capabilities of diagnostic ultrasound and have a major transformative impact on patient care and healthcare in general."

SuperSonic Imagine was recognized at Premier's Breakthroughs 2014 Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, TX on June 10. Following the event, from today June 11th to 12th, an exhibition is taking place with many of Premier's vendors present including SuperSonic Imagine.

About SuperSonic Imagine

Founded in 2005 and based in Aix-en-Provence (France), SuperSonic Imagine is a company specializing in medical imaging. The company designs, develops and markets a new generation ultrasound system, Aixplorer®, with an UltraFastTM platform that can acquire images 200 times faster than conventional ultrasound systems. Aixplorer® is the only system that can image two types of waves: ultrasound waves ensure excellent image quality and shear waves, which allow physicians to visualize and analyse the stiffness of tissue in a real-time, reliable, reproducible and non-invasive manner. This innovation, ShearWaveTM Elastography, significantly improves the detection and characterization of numerous pathologies in several applications including breast, thyroid, liver and prostate. SuperSonic Imagine has been granted regulatory clearances for the commercialization of Aixplorer® on the main markets. Over the past years, SuperSonic Imagine enjoyed the backing of several prestigious investors, among which Auriga Partners, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Bpifrance, Omnes Capital and NBGI.
