Terra Networks Selects Cloudmark to Protect Subscribers Against Messaging Threats

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 11 June 2014 Release date- 10062014 - SAN FRANCISCO- Cloudmark today announced that Terra Networks, a global digital media company and content producer with a presence in 19 countries, has selected Cloudmark Authority to provide its subscribers with the industry's fastest and most accurate spam, phishing and virus protection.

By leveraging Cloudmark's carrier-grade messaging security software, Terra will improve the service it provides to its email users while reducing the cost and burden of spam on its messaging infrastructure.

As one of the largest digital media companies in the world, Terra sought to proactively protect its network and subscribers from an ever-increasing volume of messaging traffic with Cloudmark Authority. Cloudmark provides messaging infrastructure and security solutions that dramatically improve the speed and accuracy of messaging threat protection for the largest and most demanding service provider networks and their customers.

'Consumers rely on Terra to provide the messaging services that play an integral role in their daily lives, and they expect and deserve the best possible email experience,' said Marcius Dias, director of service delivery for Terra Networks. 'As both malicious attackers and legitimate businesses have subjected consumers to ever-increasing amounts of spam, we sought to take steps to ensure that our users can enjoy a clean and productive messaging environment. Cloudmark Authority provides us with a powerful, carrier-grade solution that dramatically reduces spam on Terra's network, which enables us to safeguard our users and reduce the infrastructure necessary for processing abusive traffic.' Cloudmark Authority provides fast, accurate messaging security for mobile operators, Internet service providers and hosting providers. Cloudmark Authority frees carrier network resources, reduces storage requirements and immediately improves the email user experience. Cloudmark's solution blocks spam, phishing and malware carrying messages with greater than 99 percent accuracy and near zero false positives. Cloudmark Authority achieves this through a unique combination of proprietary technologies, including Advanced Message Fingerprinting algorithms and real-time threat reporting from the Cloudmark Global Threat Network, consisting of billions of trusted users located in 165 countries around the globe.

'Service providers and their customers face a particularly challenging messaging landscape where spam traffic is rising unchecked, and proactive ISPs such as Terra are recognizing the value of feedback-based spam filtering,' said Ronaldo Venci, Cloudmark vice president. 'Because Cloudmark Authority incorporates feedback from trusted users on the unsolicited messages they receive, it provides the ideal method for dealing with unsolicited commercial email from legitimate businesses, as well as traditional spam. We look forward to working closely with Terra to deliver the highest levels of messaging protection while reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction.' Cloudmark Authority significantly reduces administrative time while delivering the highest level of protection against new threat outbreaks. Designed for large-scale carrier deployments, Cloudmark Authority delivers up to 20 times faster messaging throughput than competitive solutions while utilizing up to 90 percent less CPU resources. This superior performance translates to higher infrastructure efficiency and significantly reduced systems total cost of ownership. Cloudmark Authority's distributed architecture, together with a full local cache of the latest threat data stored at each installation, enables the highest level of filtering reliability.

Surging Messaging Threats The messaging landscape poses significant challenges to leading communications service providers, particularly in markets that lack anti-spam legislation. For example, Brazil continues to provide a fertile territory for messaging attacks based on its lack of regulations. Based on data collected in March, Cloudmark's research shows the following noteworthy messaging trends in Brazil: Only five to 10 percent of emails sent by companies outside of Brazil using well-managed, opt-in mailing lists are typically classified as spam by Cloudmark's system. In sharp contrast, even the better email marketers in Brazil currently have 30 to 60 percent of their outbound email flagged as spam, and the less careful ones reach 90 to 100 percent.

The Brazilian division of a major U.S.-based retail chain had 92 percent of its messages flagged as spam by Cloudmark in March. The same company only had 18 percent of its messages classified as spam in the U.S. over the same time period.

Though the majority of the spam sent to Brazil came from Brazilian email marketing companies working on behalf of Brazilian corporations, many of the emails do not originate there. Brazil receives about ten times as much spam from other countries as it sends to them.

Major sources of spam sent to Brazil included hosting companies, such as OVH which is based in France; Mir Telematiki based in Russia; EBL Global Networks, Limestone Networks and Carolina Internet based in the US; and Leaseweb based in the Netherlands.

Cloudmark builds messaging security software that protects communications service provider networks and their subscribers against the widest range of messaging threats. Only Cloudmark Security Platform delivers instant security and control across diverse messaging environments, enabling communications service providers to create a safe user experience, protect revenue and safeguard their brand, while streamlining infrastructure and reducing operational costs. Cloudmark's patented solutions protect more than 120 tier-one customers worldwide, including AT&T, Verizon, Swisscom, Comcast, Cox and NTT.
