Exostar Launches Secure Large File Sharing Solution

HERNDON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

Exostar, whose cloud-based solutions enable secure, cost-effective business-to-business collaboration, today announced the availability of Secure File Transfer, a new service offering for exchanging large files over the public Internet. With Secure File Transfer, individuals have a high-performance option for securely and simply sharing documents, data, and other assets with counterparts both within and outside of the enterprise. A leading global aerospace and defense industry firm licensed Secure File Transfer immediately after product launch. The company needed a solution that was seamless, enabled the secure and efficient transfer of very large files to external parties worldwide, and supported scenarios where individuals outside of the enterprise may or may not be "registered users" whose identities must be authenticated.

As collaborative communities grow broader and deeper, organizations must be more vigilant in the protection of sensitive information and intellectual property. At the same time, they must be able to exchange large volumes of data and correspondingly large files in a timely, cost-efficient manner to keep programs on the fast track. Existing file transfer options such as FTP or Microsoft (News - Alert) SharePoint fail to meet one or more important requirements:

  • Allow for the transfer of files larger than 2 GB
  • Authenticate the identities of the sender and recipient to mitigate the risk of sensitive data falling into the wrong hands
  • Achieve high-speed performance benchmarks to promote productivity, particularly over high-latency/high-loss network connections

Exostar's cloud-based Secure File Transfer service offering achieves these and other pressing business needs for information exchange. From the user's perspective, Secure File Transfer looks like a web mail service, meaning individuals only need access to a web browser to initiate a transfer. Instead of relying on e-mail, users benefit from a proprietary technology that optimizes performance based on network bandwidth and file priority to share assets with named recipients.

"Secure File Transfer addresses all of the complexities of large file transfer behind the scenes," said Vijay Takanti, Exostar's Vice President of Security and Collaboration Solutions. "Senders identify the recipients and the data to be transmitted, with no file size limitations. Recipients get an email notification with a link to the files awaiting them. In the background, we conduct virus checking, move files to highly secure transfer nodes, and deliver files at speeds 100 to 1000 times faster than FTP."

Secure File Transfer is connected to Exostar's Identity Hubs, with access to the application controlled by Exostar's Managed Access Gateway (MAG) for the Aerospace & Defense community and Secure Access Manager (SAM) for the Life Sciences community. Customers enjoy a single sign-on experience that validates the credentials of their employees as a pre-requisite to solution access. Secure File Transfer gives customers the option to decide whether recipients such as clients, partners, and suppliers must be authenticated by MAG or SAM in order to participate.
