Vodafone Czech starts tests on LTE network in 800MHz band [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]

(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Vodafone Czech, the country's smallest mobile phone operator, launched two-month tests of its LTE network in the 800MHz band, CTK news agency reported.

For the purpose the company will use seven transmitters in Velka Bites and its surroundings and users who have a LTE SIM card and a device supporting LTE 800 MHz can try the service.

Vodafone launched LTE services on the 900MHz and 1,800MHz bands last year. The company is offering LTE services under the Turbo Internet brand, which now covers 82% of the country's population and 56% of its territory.

Vodafone CR, owned by UK's telecommunications group Vodafone, had 3.24mn clients as of end-March 2014, down 3.4% y/y. It competes on the local market with Telefonica Czech and the Czech unit of Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile. The three mobile phone companies bought 4G mobile frequencies in an auction in November. Telefonica CR paid CZK 2.8bn (EUR 102mn), T-Mobile CR - CZK 2.6bn and Vodafone CR - CZK 3.1bn for blocks in the 800 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands.
