Silver Spring Networks' Smart Street Light Solution Wins American Technology Award

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE:SSNI), a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, today announced that it has been awarded an American Technology (News - Alert) Award from the TechAmerica Foundation for the Silver Spring smart street light solution. Silver Spring's IPv6 networking platform for the Internet of Things has networked over 18.5 million Smart Grid and Smart City devices on five continents, and is connecting street lights and traffic control systems in global cities such as Copenhagen, Dublin, Miami, Oslo and Paris, and Dongguan and Foshan in China. Silver Spring's smart street light solution enables city and utility lighting operators to reduce energy costs, increase operational savings, improve public safety, and establish a network canopy that can be leveraged to deliver additional Smart City applications such as electric vehicle charging, traffic control, pollution and noise sensors, energy metering, and more. Silver Spring also recently announced the completion of its acquisition for Streetlight.Vision, a Paris-based control and management software for smart street light networks.

"We are elated to receive an American Technology Award for the Silver Spring smart street light solution that helps cities lower their energy consumption, deploy multiple Smart City applications for their citizens, and accelerate economic and social development," said Eric Dresselhuys, Executive Vice President of Global Development, Silver Spring Networks. "Innovation is our driver in helping cities modernize infrastructure, and it's great to receive industry recognition that the Silver Spring Smart City networking platform can help ease some of the pressures that cities are facing."

Florida Power & Light plans to deploy Silver Spring's IPv6 networking technology and management and control software to connect and control 75,000 street lights in the Miami-Dade County region for the largest networked street light deployment under contract in North America. Copenhagen, often referred to as the world's most sustainable city, is looking to Silver Spring to deploy a citywide canopy network to connect more than 20,000 street lights. In Paris, Silver Spring has been selected for an advanced street lighting and traffic controls program as the city seeks to reduce its public lighting energy consumption by 30% over the next 10 years.

Silver Spring also delivers its Smart City solution via an innovative Network-as-a-Service offering, where it will deploy, manage and operate Smart City networks on behalf of cities. This allows municipalities to avoid upfront capital equipment and deployment costs as well asreducing operational and management expenditures.

"Innovation is transforming all aspects of business and society. The American Technology Awards allow us to highlight the advancements that each of the winners represents as they continue to influence technology development," said Todd Thibodeaux (News - Alert), president and CEO of CompTIA, the organization that has recently acquired the TechAmerica Foundation. "We congratulate Silver Spring Networks on winning this prestigious award and thank them for driving long-term innovation through the smart street light solution to help cities overcome the pressures they are facing."
