Access IS Releases Its Next Generation OEM OCR Reader [Health & Beauty Close - Up]

(Health & Beauty Close - Up Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) With mobile devices permeating all areas of identity authentication and verification - for both Governmental and Commercial applications - Access IS has responded with the next generation of its OEM OCR engine.

In a release, the Company said that this latest generation of the device has a sensor and embedded coding that operate at lightning speed, allowing quick reads of MRZ data on identity cards and passports (at 42 inches per second / 107centimetres per second) and instant OCR decoding ( less than 0.3 second).

Access IS said that the OCR310e Reading Engine is ultra-compact and lightweight with low-power consumption and is designed for easy integration into third-party portable reading devices. It will be of interest to mobile device and tablet developers targeting both government agencies and commercial organisations. The field of application for the OCR310e is especially wide and includes: law enforcement, immigration and border control, visa and ID issuance, retail sales, banking and finance, gaming and casinos, hotel registration, airport check-in and queue-busting, and car hire. The device will also be of interest to boarding gate and kiosk integrators.

The OCR310e reads machine-readable passports (MRP), visas (MRV), US and international resident permits as well as European and other national ID cards conforming to ICAO 9303 & ISO/IEC 7501-1 (2 and 3- line MRZ). It will also read the new ISO/IEC 18013-1 driving licences (1-line MRZ), so is future-proofed. Of specific interest to the US market is the OCR310e's ability to read Passport Cards, Border Crossing Cards as well as Nexus, Sentri and the latest Global Entry cards. For non-ICAO compliant documents, the device reads standard OCR-B fonts.

The OEM engine reads bi-directionally and includes power saving features. It is designed and manufactured in the UK and uses Access's own proven OCR decoding technology.

"I am delighted and impressed with the launch of the OCR310e as this is the first product launch since I joined the company and I am convinced that the OCR310e module paves the way to many successful products, which will integrate it, including our own passport readers" said Guy-Franck Nakach, Managing Director, Access IS Access IS designs and manufactures ID document readers, which incorporates OCR, MSR, RFID/NFC and smartcard reading devices as well as specialized 2D barcode readers that enable capture and transfer of information into electronic systems.
