iBasis Enables LTE Roaming Between Polkomtel and KPN

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

iBasis, a KPN (News - Alert) company, today announced that its LTE Signaling eXchange (LSX) service is providing LTE Roaming between Polkomtel, the operator of the Plus+ network in Poland, and KPN in the Netherlands. The service enables Polkomtel mobile subscribers to continue to enjoy the speed and quality benefits of LTE (News - Alert) while traveling in the Netherlands and KPN's mobile subscribers to enjoy LTE roaming in Poland. iBasis and Polkomtel plan to expand LTE roaming for Polkomtel subscribers to many other countries in the coming months.

"I am very glad that we are again the leader in Poland in implementing LTE-based services," said Tobias Solorz CEO of Polkomtel. "We are the first telecommunication operator to launch a commercial LTE network and the first to introduce new services, such as LTE in smartphones and LTE in prepaid offers. We are the only operator who offers the possibility of using LTE to 66.7 per cent of Poland's population, nearly 26 million people. Now, Plus customers will also be the first in Poland to be able to use LTE while travelling abroad."

"We're very pleased to be expanding the LTE Roaming footprint for Polkomtel and KPN," said Willem Offerhaus, CEO of iBasis (News - Alert). "The migration to LTE is an important step in creating a richer user experience for mobile subscribers, and we are at the forefront of enabling innovative operators like Polkomtel and KPN to deliver that experience to their customers anywhere, anytime."

The iBasis LTE Signaling eXchange (LSX) service provides a single point of access to iBasis' live 4G (LTE) signaling network with Diameter Routing Agents in key locations around the world. Through direct connections to many mobile operators' LTE networks and its open peering policy, iBasis offers operators a global LTE Roaming footprint that reaches more than 60 LTE networks through a single IPX interconnection. iBasis also offers a trial environment for testing LTE interworking and roaming scenarios.
