NBC News names new 'Today' show leader from ESPN

(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK (AP) — NBC News is bringing in an ESPN executive to take charge of the "Today" show as it competes against the morning ratings leader, ABC's "Good Morning America." NBC announced Wednesday that Jamie Horowitz will be the senior vice president and general manager of "Today," in charge of the show's day-to-day production team led by Don Nash. NBC News President Deborah Turness says Horowitz will push the "Today" brand, looking for new opportunities online and with events.

Horowitz was president of original programming and production at ESPN. Like other "Today" show leaders including Jim Bell and Jeff Zucker, Horowitz began his television career in an entry-level position for NBC's Olympics team.
