Rackspace Performance Cloud Servers Available to Australian Customers

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/06/14 -- Rackspace® Hosting (NYSE: RAX), the open cloud company, today announced that its redesigned public cloud with Performance Cloud Servers will be available in Australia on 13 May. This new offering creates a powerful hosting platform for a variety of workloads, ranging from web hosting, eCommerce applications to larger scale NoSQL data stores like MongoDB and Cassandra.

Rackspace Performance Cloud Servers are powered by OpenStack® enabling programmatic on-demand access. Customers can connect the new cloud servers to dedicated bare metal servers as part of the Rackspace Hybrid Cloud, which can provide an unparalleled level of application performance. With the unique combination of hybrid cloud architecture, open source technologies and Fanatical Support®, Rackspace provides expert help through all aspects of the customer's experience, from planning and architecting to day-to-day proactive management of their hosted infrastructure.

As the first to trial Performance Cloud Servers in Australia, leading Australian technology company simPRO is delivering ERP and mobile solutions even faster to its 1,900 customers around the world. SimPRO has been able to utilise the advances in Rackspace high performance cloud to increase application response and scalability whilst also delivering a far more resilient and fault tolerant set of applications.

Jonathan Eastgate, CTO at simPRO comments, "Using a combination of Rackspace high performance servers with their incredibly fast network and the SSD block storage, we were able to quickly deploy highly scalable database and web clusters which we were previously unable with bare metal configurations. The performance of this infrastructure and its availability through Rackspace's global data centre network has also enabled us to geographically spread network and data access points globally." "The performance of Rackspace SSD block storage has also had a dramatic impact on our database performance and in some cases improved database response by up to 40%. Web server connect times were also improved up to 50% through the high performance servers improved connectivity." The Rackspace Performance Cloud Servers are designed with 100 percent data center-grade, RAID 10-protected solid-state disks (SSDs), powerful Intel® Xeon® E5 processors, up to 120 Gigabytes of RAM, and 40 Gigabits per second of highly available network throughput to the host. These servers deliver more total performance over existing Cloud Servers as follows*: 4X more total RAM2X more total CPU performance132X more total disk I/O (input/output)8.3X more total network bandwidth2.6X more total overall performanceThe new Performance Cloud Servers' high throughput network has been specifically designed to work with Rackspace Cloud Block Storage, delivering up to 1.5X more disk I/O performance for Standard volumes and 2.5X more disk I/O performance for SSD volumes**.

Jonathan Eastgate comments, "Our operations are expanding significantly with offices currently in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the US. We previously managed a co-location environment but our growth and demand, required a much faster cloud solution that met our needs for performance, reliability and customer support. Rackspace Performance Cloud helps us deliver even more benefits of simPRO Enterprise to our customers. Everything is delivered online through the applications. This offers companies a real-time holistic view of everything happening in the business whether it be in the office or in the field." "In today's world of instant demand, applications must be capable of performing at scale without compromise. Rackspace Performance Cloud Servers enable our customers, like simPRO, to achieve best-fit infrastructure to optimise the performance of their applications. Our latest announcement redefines the benchmark for performance in our public cloud offering as part of our Australian hybrid cloud portfolio," said Angus Dorney, general manager, Rackspace ANZ.

* Benchmarks compare a 30GB Standard Cloud Server to a 120GB Performance Cloud Server, the largest available in each class. Multiple tests were run for each benchmark and the average score taken. Linux kernel compile time was used to measure CPU performance, fio to measure disk I/O, iperf to measure network bandwidth and unixbench to measure overall performance.

** Benchmarks use fio to compare Cloud Block Storage Standard and SSD volume performance on a 15GB Standard Cloud Server and 15GB Performance Cloud Server. Multiple tests were run and the average score taken.
