Fishbowl CEO to Receive Excellence in Leadership Award at UVU Convocation

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OREM, Utah, April 23 -- Utah Valley University issued the following news release: Fishbowl CEO David K. Williams will be awarded the Excellence in Leadership award at Utah Valley University's Woodbury School of Business convocation ceremony on May 2. The award honors a national leader who is recognized within his or her chosen profession, and whose body of professional work represents an appropriate mentor and example for students in the Woodbury School of Business.

Drawing upon his own experience of losing his son to a rare gastric cancer, Williams and his team have been instrumental in helping individuals across the globe learn how to move forward after suffering a failure or tragedy in life. Williams believes every individual can learn and move forward in life.

The business leader has applied his unique brand of leadership skills and transformed a small, struggling software development group into an industry leader. Based in Orem, Fishbowl is the nation's leading provider of inventory management software for SMBs and asset tracking solution for larger enterprises. Fishbowl Inventory is the No. 1 inventory management software for QuickBooks users, and the company is one of Intuit's original Gold Developer partners. Williams and his Fishbowl team have received numerous awards for the company's continual fast growth, experiencing a 70 percent increase in 2011, and, that same year, achieving a 100 percent company buyback from its original investor. Fishbowl was also voted the Community Partner of the Year for the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Williams is a frequent guest speaker and author on business leadership topics, being published in the Deseret News, Harvard Business Journal and Forbes magazine. Williams' and Fishbowl's joint collaboration for the book, "The 7 Non-Negotiables of Winning," was named one of Amazon's Top 10 Best Books in July 2013. Williams is also a member of UVU's Woodbury School of Business National Advisory Council. In this role, he mentors business students, offers career advice and prepares young entrepreneurs to succeed in the business world. He also serves on the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Roundtable.

"David brings a unique fire, vision and passion to his position that empowers his employees and everyone he encounters to accomplish more than what they think is possible," said Woodbury School of Business Dean Norman Wright.

Under Williams' leadership, Fishbowl has won dozens of awards from the Inc. 500/5000, Deloitte Fast 500, Global Red Herring, Best of State, Smart 25, Utah Fast 50, MWCN Utah Top 100 companies and more. Williams was honored as one of Spring Capital's Top 100 Venture Capital Entrepreneurs in 2011 and 2012.

"I'm very humbled by this award and appreciate receiving it. I'm just one of many who could have been chosen," said Williams. "I would not be here without the support of the great people at Fishbowl. We are a team, and we support one another through challenges and successes. There is no 'I,' 'me' or 'my' in the 'bowl'. The name on the front of our jerseys matters so much more than the name on back." Williams has extended his business success into Fishbowl's social and corporate responsibility arm, Courage Above Mountains (CAM), of which he is co-founder and has named in honor of his son, Cameron. The organization provides business incubation space and digital learning programs for small businesses in the Utah community, as well as providing learning, health and enrichment services to underserved individuals in the U.S. and abroad.

Prior to joining Fishbowl, Williams held several other executive positions and has served on a number of companies' boards of directors. He has served as CEO of Franklin Quest Canada and later as managing director of First Things First, a division of Covey Leadership, a time management and leadership consulting program.

The Woodbury School of Business's 2014 convocation begins at 2 p.m. in the UCCU Center.
