Army major is new chief of crime commissioner's team ; Movers&Shakers [Hull Daily Mail (England)]

(Hull Daily Mail (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PUBLIC SECTOR: A serving major in the Army is set to take up a new senior role supporting Humberside police and crime commissioner Matthew Grove.

Martin Scoble will take over from Kevin Sharp, who is retiring, after his appointment as chief executive was unanimously approved by the police and crime panel.

The commissioner is required by law to appoint a chief executive who acts as monitoring officer to support and advise him and is also responsible for the management of the commissioner's office and staff. Mr Scoble, 38, believes his military background will serve him well in his new Pounds 80,000-a-year role.

He said: "I know I have the skills and attributes to do the job but without having a police background, I can also come into the role with a fresh pair of eyes and a new way of doing things." Mr Grove said he was delighted with the appointment.

He said: "Martin clearly demonstrated that in his military career he has developed all the outstanding leadership qualities and experience to fit into the role of chief executive, including strategy development, partnership working and scrutiny."
