China : ZTE assists Air China introduce ground-air broadband test [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ZTE Corp. said that it is the exclusive supplier of the ground-air broadband system used by Air China to complete its first in-flight Internet service and passenger experience test.

ZTE in addition offered technical and service support, giving passengers a fast and convenient broadband service experience.

The test occurred in a one-hour flight from Beijing to Chengdu, and passengers were capable of access a variety of online services through WiFi, counting WeChat, instant messaging, micro-blogging, e-mail, online gaming and online payments. Passengers were in addition able to experience real-time video and online movies.



Air China is the first airline to offer ground-air Internet services in China, and the test was based on 4G technology. The system adopted customized LTE wireless equipment whereas ground base-stations were placed along the flight route and specific air space to achieve aerial coverage. The system offers wireless data bandwidth of from 30 to 60Mbps for aircraft at different heights.
