BRIEF: Google Glass research underway at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (+Video) [Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Texas :: ]

(Caller-Times (Corpus Christi, TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 18--CORPUS CHRISTI -- Student researchers at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi have the world on the tip of their eyes.

With the addition of Google Glass to the Innovation in Computing Research (iCORE) lab at the university, students are helping to beta test the new technology and develop research applications.

Google Glass is a wearable computer mounted on glasses. Someone wearing the computer can control it via voice, touch and eye movements.

In addition, to the pair of glasses available to researchers, Chris Rios, an undergraduate research assistant at iCORE, was approved for a pair for $1,500. He and the lab researchers are part of a small group approved by Google to research and develop different ways to utilize the new technology.

iCORE has developed an application to control an unmanned aircraft using only voice and movement.

Rios said there are uses for the glass in many areas of his life. When cooking he can pull up a recipe and by the movement of his eyes he can turn the recipe to the next page. He also uses the technology to record lectures for playback later.
