UVU Business Marketing Chair Named Best of State College/University Teacher


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OREM, Utah, April 17 -- Utah Valley University issued the following news release: Paul Dishman, chair of the business marketing department at Utah Valley University's Woodbury School of Business, has been named the 2014 Best of State College/University Teacher. The Best of State Awards recognize outstanding individuals, organizations and businesses in Utah.



"Dr. Dishman represents the best of Woodbury School of Business in leading our marketing program and students to excellence," said Woodbury School of Business Dean Norman Wright. "It is no surprise that his professional experience combined with his tremendous education resume led to this prestigious honor, and we're extremely proud for him to be recognized." Dishman holds an MBA in marketing and a doctorate in marketing research. Before returning to academia, he served on the marketing staffs of both Apple and IBM. He has taught for more than 25 years and has conducted industry research and projects for more than two decades.

"I am honored to receive such an incredible honor as Best of State," Dishman said. "Everyday I have the distinct pleasure of sharing marketing insights with some of Utah's best and brightest at the Woodbury School of Business." In 2010, Dishman was named a Fulbright Scholar by the U.S. State Department and taught at the University of Donja Gorica in Montenegro. He currently holds a position as a visiting professor at Shanghai Normal University. He is a past president of Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP), and international society based in Alexandria, Va., and has been named a Fellow of the society. He has also been named a Fellow of the Academy of Marketing Science. He serves as executive director of the UVU Sales and Marketing Applied Research Test (S/MART) lab facility.


Dishman often shares his expertise through lectures on marketing, which are attended by local and national companies and organizations. During the past few years, he has spoken and conducted training programs in China and Japan as part of a United Nations invitation, as well as for the American Marketing Association, Microsoft, 3M, IBM, Amgen, American Airlines, KPMG, Deutschebank, Westinghouse, Unilever and various professional groups. He has also lectured in Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, France, Canada, Montenegro, Croatia, Albania and Kosovo. He has published academic articles in "The European Journal of Marketing," "Market Planning and Intelligence," "Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management," "Industrial Marketing Management," "Journal of Competitive Intelligence and Management" and "Competitive Intelligence Review." He is the author of "The Full Monte: A Fulbright Scholar's Humorous and Heartwarming Experience in Montenegro -- A Beautiful Little Country You've Never Heard of but Really Ought to Visit" (2014) and "The Gift" (2015), an introduction to business textbook.

Best of State candidates demonstrate achievement and excellence in their fields of endeavor, producing superior results and outcomes. More than 100 judges review the nominations.

Dishman will receive the award June 4 at the Best of State Awards Gala at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.
