Silver Peak Expands Suite of Virtual Data Replication Software for Storage Professionals

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Silver Peak (News - Alert), the leader in accelerating data over distance, today announced the addition of a new replication accelerator to its Velocity Replication Acceleration (VRX) suite of software products. The new accelerator, VRX-6, allows storage professionals using a 300 Mbps WAN to accelerate their offsite data replication workloads up to 20x (on average) over any distance.

The Silver Peak VRX software products were developed using Silver Peak's Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA), the world's fastest data acceleration operating system, which overcomes network distance, congestion and capacity challenges that limit data mobility over distance. VRX-6 software deploys seamlessly into any replication environment and runs on all standard hypervisors, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and KVM. It is proven with all asynchronous IP-based replication solutions from Dell (News - Alert), EMC®, Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), NetApp® and others. The new VRX-6 completes the VRX series of products, which offer replication capacity of up to 2 terabytes-per-hour (TB/hr):

  • VRX-2 - 20 Mbps, averaging 50 GB/hr of replication traffic
  • VRX-4 - 100 Mbps, averaging 250 GB/hr of replication traffic
  • VRX-6 - 300 Mbps, averaging 750 GB/hr of replication traffic
  • VRX-8 - 1 Gbps, averaging 2 TB/hr of replication traffic

"With the launch of VRX-6, businesses of every size now have a high-performance VRX solution that can help them meet their data protection objectives. Customers can accelerate replication, backup and data migration without making any changes to the network and taking an outage." said Everett Dolgner, director of replication product management for Silver Peak.

Quick and Easy Set-up for Storage Professionals

With Silver Peak VRX software, storage professionals can accelerate their replication traffic in under 20 minutes. No special networking expertise is required. The storage administrator downloads the desired VRX software from the Silver Peak marketplace, installs the software in the same locations as the source and target devices on the hypervisor of their choice, then redirects traffic to the VRX from the source and target storage devices with a few simple commands.

Customer Testimonials

"As our business grows and demands on the IT department change, it is increasingly essential that we optimize our network in order to improve our DR operations and cope with increasing end user needs," said Tim Buckley, group IT director at United Drug, which uses EMC (News - Alert) RecoverPoint as a strategic component for disaster recovery. "In order to do this, we need a high-capacity solution that solves network quality and latency issues for a wide range of traffic. Silver Peak has a clear advantage on these fronts, plus they are a highly-flexible solution that takes just minutes to deploy."

"500 MB of daily backups were taking up to 27 hours to complete and full replication was taking 95 percent of the week to complete," said Steve Borba, IT administrator at Citizens Business Bank. "We had already seen how VMware virtual machines could compete with physical servers, so we wanted to see how virtual data acceleration software stacked up against proprietary appliances. Deployed with our Dell Compellent SAN-to-SAN replication, Silver Peak software is now enabling us to replicate up to 2 terabytes (TB) of data per day. Silver Peak improved our usable bandwidth by more than 22x."
