eAccess to trial 4G in 1700MHz and 3400MHz-3600MHz bands [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Japanese broadband operator eAccess has applied to telecoms regulator the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for a temporary licence to trial 4G services using in the 1700MHz and 3400MHz-3600MHz frequency bands in Saitama Prefecture, situated in the Kanto region of Honshu Island. According to a company press release, the company has requested 80MHz (Time-Division Duplex, TDD) in the 3400MHz-3600MHz band for the trial. The operator has already been assigned 2×5MHz paired blocks in the 1744.9MHz-1749.9MHz/1839.9MHz-1844.9MHz bands and 2×15MHz paired blocks in the 1749.9MHz-1764.9MHz/1844.9MHz-1859.9MHz bands to conduct its field trials, which will run until mid-July 2014. eAccess plans to utilise five-wave carrier aggregation (CA) technology with a 4x4 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) configuration; four waves in the 3400MHz-3600MHz (TDD) band will be augmented with one Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) wave in the 1700MHz band.
