Quality Training Systems Announces Completion of Turnkey NERC PER-005 Training Development Project

(NewMediaWire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) COLUMBIA, Md. - (EINPresswire via NewMediaWire) - April 14, 2014 - Electric utility consulting services and training management software provider Quality Training Systems (QTS) announced today that its Consulting Services group has recently completed a comprehensive NERC PER-005 compliant System Operator training program development project at Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) for PNM's Wholesale Power Marketing (WPM) operation. This turnkey project included complete analysis, design, and development activities, as well as the development of a comprehensive set of training policies, procedures, and internal controls governing the program's implementation and maintenance. WPM uses the Quality Training Database(TM), the flagship product of QTS, to manage and maintain data related to training analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

The purpose of the NERC PER-005 standard is to ensure that System Operators performing real-time, reliability-related tasks on the North American Bulk Electric System (BES) are competent to perform those reliability related tasks. It requires the implementation of a Systematic Approach to Training.

Rusty York, Lead WPM Trainer for PNM, stated, "We are pleased to implement a comprehensive training program customized to our needs. Through this project, we are able to train and qualify the next generation of operators in compliance with the federal requirement." Stefanie Pressl, Executive Vice President for QTS, commented, "Affected power companies in the United States were required to be compliant with the PER-005 standard on or before April 1, 2013. Instead of stopping at minimal compliance with the standard, PNM had the foresight and commitment to operator training to develop a full training program so it is ready to provide fully compliant initial training to new hires immediately. We are very pleased to have been able to expand our relationship with PNM by providing these important services, which are part of QTS' core strengths." About QTS Headquartered in Columbia, MD, QTS provides training and performance improvement consulting services to the electric utility industry throughout North America, primarily in system operations. QTS owns and markets the Quality Training Database(TM), a training management software system that was designed specifically to help clients maintain compliance with NERC PER reliability standards and is currently used by over 100 companies.
