Steffens Takes Reins Of Cancer Support House [Times Record, Fort Smith, Ark. :: ](Times Record (Fort Smith, AR) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 11--The Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House and Arkansas-Oklahoma Cancer Support Foundation have a new executive director to lead the nonprofit organizations into the future. Susan A. Steffens was selected to lead the two organizations, according to Judy Englehart, president of the Cancer Support Foundation board of directors. Englehart said Steffens' personal and career background are well suited for the position. "Susan brings a wealth of experience in fundraising, grant writing, marketing, public relations, finance, business development and management," Englehart said in a news release. Originally from Cleveland, Tenn., Steffens comes to the Cancer Support House from the Donald W. Reynolds Crisis Intervention Center, where she served as executive director. She previously held the position of assistant executive director and chief financial officer for Bost Inc. "During my career in the nonprofit industry, I have had the privilege to train with strong leadership styles who helped shape my vision and passion for the social services industry," Steffens, 52, said after helping finalize details of the Wine & Roses gala held April 5. "As well, the AR-OK Cancer Support Foundation has had the privilege of being led by strong community leaders in the past. I am truly honored to follow in the footsteps of those past leaders who formed this agency into the place of excellence it is today." Steffens attended the University of Tennessee and received a bachelor's degree from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga. She earned her master's degree in business administration from Webster University in Fort Smith. A 2011 graduate of Leadership Fort Smith, Steffens is very involved in the community, volunteering her time to serve social service agencies that fit her passion and commitment to enhance the lives of others. Her current affiliations include Zonta International, the Network of Executive Women and the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce committees. She previously served on the boards for the Children's Emergency Shelter, Mount Magazine Girl Scout Council, Fort Smith Art Center and Christian Women's Job Corp. Steffens served on the Step Up, Speak Out Prevent Child Abuse committee and as director of women's ministries for a local church. Steffens looks forward to leading the Cancer Support House in its mission of providing an array of cost-free programs and services to cancer patients and to provide cancer awareness education programs across the 14-county service area of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. The Arkansas-Oklahoma Cancer Support Foundation was founded in 1978 to support the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House in providing services free of charge to cancer patients and their families. "I am humbled and excited to be given the opportunity to serve as executive director for the Cancer Support Foundation and Reynolds Cancer Support House," Steffens said. "The agency is gifted with a strong team of employees, a board of directors and many volunteers who are engaged to fulfill this mission. "My vision is to remove all barriers to service for cancer patients and to create the environment to provide even more quality services for the cancer survivor and their family members," she added.
