Integrated Marketing Communications Majors Chosen for Multicultural Advertising Intern Program

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ITHACA, N.Y., April 8 -- Ithaca College issued the following news release: Monica Lum '14 and Helena Murphy '15, both integrated marketing communications majors at Ithaca College, have been selected by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's) (http://www.aaaa.org/) to participate in the Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) (http://maip.aaaa.org/).

Lum will work as a project management intern at the internationally known Wieden + Kennedy (W+K), a full-service advertising agency best known for their work for Nike, Old Spice, ESPN and Coca-Cola.

"I remember really liking W+K at the American Advertising Federation Mosaic Career Fair," said Lum. "I'm sure it will be an amazing experience." Lum is currently involved with Ithaca College's Student Activities Board and Imprint Magazine. She is also a promotional specialist with TEAM Enterprises in Ithaca.

Murphy, a Martin Luther King Jr. scholar, will intern with Deutsch, an advertising agency known for their clients Outback Steakhouse, PNC, DirectTV and Microsoft.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to work with MAIP and explore the account management side of the advertising industry," said Murphy. "MAIP seems like an amazing network of support and professionals and I want to learn as much as possible during my time with the program." Since 1973, MAIP has helped jumpstart the careers of more than 2,500 African-American, Asian-American, Latino-American, Native American, multiracial and multiethnic aspiring advertising professionals. Each year, undergraduate and graduate students are selected for a 10-week paid summer internship with participating 4A advertising agencies nationwide. Students gain practical work experience, establish key industry contacts and become better prepared to land a full-time job in advertising upon graduation.

Founded in 1917, the 4A's is the national trade association representing the advertising agency business in the United States.
