Digicel Suriname launches HSPA+ network [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) South American wireless network operator Digicel Suriname has deployed what it claims is a '4G network', covering around 15 locations across the country. According to the company's website, the new HSPA+ network provides Digicel's subscribers with download speeds of 2Mbps, ten times faster than the ones currently offered over its EDGE network. Pre-paid plans for smartphone users range from SRD5 (USD1.51) for 500MB of data to SRD89 (4GB), while post-paid subscribers could access the network for SRD49 (1GB), SRD (3GB) and SRD89 (5GB). TeleGeography notes that the Digicel Group often describes its HSPA+ networks as '4G', despite the fact that it has rolled out 'true 4G' LTE technology in markets such as Antigua & Barbuda and Turks & Caicos.
