Nigeria: Umbrella broadcasters' association signs World Cup broadcast rights [Pan African News Agency]

(Pan African News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The umbrella Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) has signed an agreement with a private sports marketing company, Optimal Sports Management International (OSMI), that will allow its members to transmit the 2014 World Cup live from Brazil to Nigerian viewers.

The agreement, which was signed in the nation's capital, Abuja, means Nigerians will be able to watch all the 64 matches live.

BON Chairman Abubakar Jijiwa signed for the organisation while the Chief Executive Officer of OSMI. Rotimi Pedro, signed for the company.

"The agreement basically is to give all broadcasters in Nigeria the right to transmit the games of the 2014 World Cup, for all the matches, the previews, the highlights, and associated properties of the 2014 World Cup. Members of BON will collectively benefit from showing the games,'' Jijiwa said at the signing ceremony.

BON has about 100 public and private radio and television stations as members.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup will hold from 12 June to 13 July.

PANA recalls that OSMI was in 2013 awarded the exclusive free broadcast rights (in Nigeria) for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and other FIFA events.
