NPT initiates consultation on plans for auction of leftover 1800MHz spectrum [TeleGeography CommsUpdate](TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Norwegian Post & Telecoms Authority (NPT) has launched a consultation on plans to sell off three 2×5MHz blocks of 1800MHz spectrum that went unsold following an auction late last year. Having said it intends to re-auction the frequencies (1710MHz-1725 MHz/1805MHz-1820MHz), the regulator has published a document outlining the general framework for the sale process, but has said it wants input from industry players on the plans before developing draft auction rules. A deadline for submissions has been set as 2 May 2014. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in December 2013 the NPT confirmed that three companies had secured new frequencies following its sale of spectrum in the 800MHz, 900MHz and 1800MHz bands. Telenor, TeliaSonera (which operates under the NetCom banner) and Telco Data were the winning bidders, with the market's third mobile network operator Tele2 Norge (including Network Norway) notably missing out. Both Telenor and NetCom grabbed 2×10MHz in the 800MHz band, 2×5MHz in the 900MHz band and 2×10MHz in the 1800MHz band, while newcomer Telco Data successfully bid for a slightly larger batch of frequencies, laying claim to 2×10MHz in the 800MHz band, 2×5MHz in the 900MHz band and 2×20MHz in the 1800MHz band.
