UNCW'S Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to Expand Services Through Partnership with Wireless Research Center of NC

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WILMINGTON, N.C., April 2 -- The University of North Carolina Wilmington issued the following news release: The University of North Carolina Wilmington Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (http://uncw.edu/cie/) has partnered with the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina (http://wirelesscenter-nc.org/) (WRCNC) to further support research and commercialization for local technology-based startups. Through events and regular CIE office hours, the WRCNC will offer their network and expertise to hardware and technology companies in the Southeastern region.

New and existing tech companies can utilize the WRCNC's engineering services and testing for wireless communications, funding opportunities, and intellectual property guidance for commercial, government and academic audiences.

"We are honored to announce a partnership with the Wireless Research Center as they can help foster a wide array of technology companies in the Wilmington area," said CIE Executive Director Jim Roberts. "We are enhancing our existing relationship with them, which will allow our technology entrepreneurs to make new connections throughout North Carolina and beyond." Based in Wake Forest, N.C., the WRCNC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit wireless research hub offering a safe and trusted environment for invention and development of wireless technologies. The winner of the Golden Leaf Foundation grant, WRCNC is a CTIA-certified testing organization with a global customer base that produces a diverse range of wireless products.

"We are excited to offer, through CIE, broader access to the unique public asset that is the WRCNC," said Larry Steffann, General Manager of the WRCNC. "This partnership will help budding companies address emerging opportunities such as the Internet of Things, where more than 50 billion Internet connected devices will be turned on over the next few years." The WRCNC has the ability to assist with regulatory requirements and provide insight into how well products align with industry standards. For technology entrepreneurs, WRCNC can also offer portable specialized testing facilities that are CTIA certified.

The CIE works to identify and nurture high-growth, high-impact companies and to accelerate the entrepreneurial ecosystem in southeastern North Carolina. It is located at 803 South College Road, at the south perimeter of the UNCW campus. The CIE houses UNCW's Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC), technology transfer operations and the Seahawk Innovation Fund. In addition, UNCW faculty and students are able to use the CIE as an accelerator space for academic and entrepreneurial pursuits.
