KPN completes LTE network deployment [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dutch telco KPN has announced that it has completed the rollout of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G mobile network with the switching on of its latest 4G antenna in the town of Vlissingen in the Zealand region. The network now incorporates 3,000 sites and covers 95% of the Dutch population, locally-based Telecompaper reports. KPN's 4G infrastructure has been deployed in under 14 months, with the initial launch having taken place in Amsterdam in February last year. The firm says it has spent EUR1.4 billion (USD1.85 billion) so far on LTE services, including acquiring spectrum and rolling out its networks. There will be gradual migration of users onto the new network, KPN says, with its 3G network remaining in service for at least another five years.
