Ipswitch MOVEit Cloud Managed File Transfer Supports HIPAA, HITECH and HIPAA Omnibus Standards

LEXINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

The Ipswitch MOVEit Managed File Transfer Cloud environment now fully supports HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) standards, providing customers an easier and faster way to achieve and maintain HIPAA compliance for file transfer processes. MOVEit Cloud received an evaluation report (HIPAA AUP) from an independent, third-party auditor detailing the controls MOVEit Cloud has in place to meet HIPAA/HITECH data privacy and security requirements. Ipswitch (News - Alert) will now sign Business Associate Agreements (BAA) with customers purchasing the HIPAA Compliance Toolkit.

MOVEit Cloud now takes significant pressure off customers' security and compliance teams by drastically reducing the scope of the HIPAA/HITECH audits that are required for handling electronic protected health information (ePHI). Following Ipswitch's PCI DSS certification, Common Criteria certification and OWASP announcements earlier this year, achieving HIPAA compliance represents Ipswitch's latest commitment to developing and deploying secure solutions across industries.

Today's announcement is significant for any company that sends or receives sensitive information, including Protected Health Information (PHI), which ranges companies across the healthcare spectrum. This includes health insurance companies, pharmacies, healthcare providers and human resources departments in all companies when they transmit PHI, either scheduled and unscheduled to health insurance providers, during Family Medical Leave Act communications and employee medical claims

"In today's data-driven world, file transfer is critical to the way the extended enterprise operates," said Steve Hess, vice president of Product Management, Ipswitch. "Through a managed cloud environment, we are now able to provide security and control at a scale for customers that must meet HIPAA standards when transferring sensitive health data. For these companies, this offering represents a more secure and cost-effective option that will also free up staff to focus on other operational or strategic tasks."

MOVEit Cloud includes features needed to maintain HIPAA compliance for file transfer processes with the following benefits:

  • Proven, compliant security that supports secure managed file transfer needs and lowers risks, Ipswitch's team of security experts.
  • Reduced time, and resources needed to achieve and demonstrate HIPAA compliance.
  • Packaged HIPAA Compliant environment that satisfies electronic protected health information (ePHI) related legal obligations in HIPAA/HITECH legislation.

"Healthcare organizations have not been as quick to adopt the Cloud because of HIPAA compliance concerns; and yet healthcare organizations stand to benefit from the economics the Cloud can provide along with helping to reduce their IT footprint," said Stewart Bond, Senior Research Analyst at Info-Tech Research Group. "Now that MOVEit Cloud is HIPAA compliant, it will provide healthcare organizations with secure alternatives for exchanging data among clinics, insurance companies, and even with their supply chain as more and more PHI makes its way into everyday transactions."

Similar to its PCI (News - Alert) Compliance Toolkit, the HIPAA Compliance Toolkit is available as an annual purchase for enterprises looking to transmit PHI. It includes:

  • Standard BAA - including breach notification and contractual HIPAA terms and conditions
  • Assessment report from third-party auditor
  • Responsibility matrix of controls
  • MOVEit Cloud HIPAA Compliance Report Template
  • Support in working with your auditor
  • Specific advice for storing and transmitting electronic PHI with MOVEit Cloud
