Liberty Global's Bill Warga to Join SCTE Board of Directors

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) EXTON, Pa., March 24 -- The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers issued the following news release: The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today announced a significant step forward in the internationalization of the organization with the appointment of Bill Warga, vice president, technology and a member of the Chief Architecture Group for Liberty Global, to the SCTE Board of Directors.

Warga, a veteran of more than three decades in the broadcasting and cable industries, is responsible for the research and evaluation of new, innovative technologies as they relate to Liberty Global's business, strategic and operational activities in Europe and the Americas. He will assume his new SCTE role when the 2014-'15 board is seated in September.

Warga will replace Mike LaJoie, executive vice president and CTO of Time Warner Cable, the only appointed SCTE board member whose term expires this year.

"Bill Warga's expertise and guidance will be invaluable as we increase the scope of SCTE to encompass new products and services, both in the United States and in the international marketplace," said Terry Cordova, senior vice president and CTO of Suddenlink Communications and chairman of the SCTE Board of Directors. "We're grateful to him for committing the time and resources needed to advance our industry, and to my predecessor as chairman, Mike LaJoie, for his many contributions to SCTE." "SCTE's proactive approach to training, certification and standards development is creating a more effective workforce that can accelerate the rollout of new technologies such as DOCSIS(TM) 3.1," said Warga. "I look forward to working with the board to ensure that SCTE's resources are aligned with the needs of the international cable community." With Liberty Global, Warga has served in leadership positions across the cable industry's initiatives and consortiums including: RDK Management, LLC; CableLabs(TM); SCTE; DOCSIS(TM); and OpenCable. He is also a member of the CableLabs European CTO advisory committee, the CableLabs OpenCable certification board, the SCTE Foundation board, as well as various technical advisory boards of Fortune 500 companies.

The SCTE Board of Directors comprises seven appointed directors, each of whom serves a two-year term, and eight regional directors, who are elected for one-year terms. The eight regional directors are selected from and elected by SCTE's 13 regional representatives, each of whom acts on behalf of an SCTE region. SCTE will conduct elections for regional representatives in May.

Warga's first meeting will be in September when the 2014-'15 SCTE board convenes for the first time, at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo(TM) in Denver. SCTE Cable-Tec Expo(TM) will be held Monday through Thursday, Sept. 22-25 at the Colorado Convention Center.
