Afghan Wireless Granted a 3G License [ICT Monitor Worldwide]

(ICT Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Afghanistan's ICT Ministry says that it has awarded a 3G license to Afghan Wireless (AWCC). The fee paid was not revealed but is understood to have been US$25 million.

Rival networks, Etisalat, MTN, Roshan and Afghan Telecom have already been issued with 3G licenses.

H.E. Amirzai Sangin Minister of Communications and IT said that although efforts have been made in the development of internet services, the 3G technology services are provided services in 20 province of the country by four communication companies.

He said that the target is to cover 80 percent population and area of Afghanistan within a year.

Incidentally, Afghan Wireless's own website press page hasn't been updated since 2011.
