CEA Praises FCC for Maintaining Momentum on Upcoming Spectrum Auction

ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The following statement is attributable to Julie Kearney, vice president of regulatory affairs at the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, regarding today's Federal Communications Commission (FCC (News - Alert)) report on the potential challenges and costs associated with TV channel repacking under the 600 MHz TV broadcast spectrum incentive auction process:

"No one ever said that planning and executing the world's first-ever TV broadcast spectrum incentive auction would be easy. Nonetheless, the FCC repeatedly demonstrates that it's clearly ready for the challenge.

"More and more consumer technology devices, services and related products connect to each other and online to provide the 'anywhere/anytime' access to information, entertainment and our friends and families that consumers demand. These smart devices need ample spectrum to communicate with their surroundings and each other, but we're now facing a nationwide shortfall. This auction presents a tremendous opportunity to free up that valuable and much-needed spectrum.

"Today's report proves the FCC is completely transparent in its preparations to address the numerous complex issues before it. CEA and our members stand ready to help the Commission ensure a successful auction and repacking process."
