Dr. Kenneth L. Kalkwarf Receives ADEA Distinguished Service Award


SAN ANTONIO --(Business Wire)--

Kenneth L. Kalkwarf, D.D.S., is the recipient of the 2014 American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes significant contributions to ADEA and its members through teaching, research and service. The award was presented to Dr. Kalkwarf at the 2014 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition March 15-18 in San Antonio.

Dr. Kalkwarf is Dean Emeritus of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Dental School, retiring last summer after serving 24 years as the dental Dean. During the last two years of his tenure, he served as President ad interim of UTHSCSA.

Dr. Kalkwarf received his D.D.S. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), completed a General Practice Residency at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center and then returned to UNMC for his M.S. degree and a Certificate in Periodontics.

Prior to his appointment at UTHSCSA, he held faculty positions at UNMC and the University of Oklahoma. He has authored more than 175 article published in professional journals and presented more than 270 lectures throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia. As a consultant to more than 40 dental schools worldwide, he has advised on numerous issues, from curriculum, research and clinical affairs to faculty and leadership development.



He was the founding Chair of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education. In 2009, Dr. Kalkwarf received the American Dental Association's highest award-The Distinguished Service Award. He has also received Presidential Citations from ADEA in 2001 and 2009 and has been recognized by Who's Who in America since 1995. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and has held numerous national leadership capacities at ADEA, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, the Joint Commission of National Board Dental Examinations, the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and the American College of Dentists.
