Micrel to Exhibit Products Making a Powerful Difference at Electronica China 2014

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SHANGHAI, CHINA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/17/14 -- Micrel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in high performance analog and high-speed mixed signal, LAN, and timing and communications solutions, today announced today announced that it will be previewing analog, timing and communications and LAN technology solutions designed to make a difference at Electronica China 2014. The industry conference will be held March 18-20th, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, SNICE. Micrel will be exhibiting at Booth No. 1554 in Hall W1; March 18 - 19, 9:00 to 17:00 and March 20, 9:00 to 16:00. Solutions on display will include: Powerful Products Saving Power, Design Time and Board SpaceThe MIC28304/MIC45205/MIC45208/MIC45212 family of power modules operates from 4.5V to 26.5V (70V for MIC28304) input and are capable of delivering currents of 3A, 6A, 10A and 14A, respectively. These highly integrated power module solutions are designed to simplify the system power design process while offering exceptional performance. These modules feature a complete switching power supply solution in an ultra-compact, thermally-enhanced, rugged surface mount package. The devices integrate a PWM controller, power MOSFETs, inductor, and associated discrete components to save board space and reduce component counts which results in higher system reliability. The devices are ideally suited for RAID systems, network routers, blade servers, cellular base stations, medical test equipment, and test instrumentation.

The MIC2111 DC/DC multi-mode controller is capable of operating in a valley current mode or a voltage mode configuration. This controller provides the necessary PWM signal to interface with industry standard DrMOS. It also interfaces with fully discrete power stages to deliver a high current, low voltage solution to high performance power demanding core rails in the server, communication, and networking markets. The MIC2111 is the first multi-mode controller capable of operating in either a valley current or voltage mode configuration. The MIC2111 addresses the design challenge of delivering high power to low voltage core power rails in a constrained space.

The MIC33163/164 and MIC33263/64 family are high-efficiency, 4MHz, synchronous buck regulators with an integrated inductor capable of delivering current of 1A and 2A. In addition, the 100 percent duty cycle and HLL mode of operation delivers very high efficiency at light loads and ultra-fast transient response. These modules provide the optimal trade-off between footprint and efficiency and are perfectly suited for space-constrained applications. They are also an excellent alternative for low dropout regulators for applications such as SSD and handheld devices. The MIC33163/4 ultra-low profile of 1.1mm makes this part ideal for embedded point-of-load applications by providing a small, compact total solution with only a 22microF output capacitor and a few tiny external components.

Timing and CommunicationsThe SY88073L and SY88083L are two new limiting post amplifiers. The devices are ideal for FTTH XGPON.2 ONU/ONT (Optical Network Unit / Optical Network Terminal) applications supporting the build out of the next generation of PON networks. This product family is also suitable for use in all continuous mode fiber optic or copper cable SFP+ transceiver modules for multi-rate applications from 1G to 12.5Gbps supporting 10G Ethernet, Fibre Channel, OTN, and CPRI/OBSAI data rates. These new optical limiting amplifiers deliver speed, performance, and features that are critical to solving technical difficulties facing next generation FTTH, Enterprise, and transport networks. With increased link efficiency, system operators can achieve higher data transmission performance and potentially reduce carriers' CapEx and OpEx.

The DSC400 is a four output crystal-less™ clock generator. This is the first Micrel MEMS-based timing product launch which utilizes Micrel's proven PureSilicon™ MEMS technology to provide excellent jitter and stability while incorporating additional device functionality. The device targets a broad range of applications including communications and networks; Ethernet 1G, 10GBASE-T/KR/LR/SR, and FCoE; storage area networks, FC, SATA, SAS, FTTH EPON, 10G-EPON, GPON and 10G-PON; HD/SD/SDI video and surveillance;automotive; media and video and embedded and industrial.

Live DemosIn addition to these new products, Micrel will be demonstrating its innovative brushless motor solution. The demand for higher efficiency is increasing via new government regulations and since electrical motors are one of the largest consumers of electrical power, motor driver designers are in need of a more efficient and reliable solution. The MIC4605 is one of the industry's most robust and power efficient Half Bridge MOSFET drivers designed to address a wide variety of applications including motor drives, UPS and DC/AC invertors. The MIC4605 is a 85V Half Bridge MOSFET driver that features Adaptive-Dead-Time and Shoot-Through Protection. The Adaptive-Dead-Time circuitry actively monitors the Half Bridge to minimize the time between high and low side MOSFET transitions, which maximizes power efficiency. Anti-Shoot-Through circuitry prevents erroneous inputs and noise from turning both MOSFETs on at the same time. The MIC4605 also offers a wide 5.5V to 16V operating supply range to maximize system efficiency. The low 5.5V operating voltage allows longer run times in battery powered applications. These features make the MIC4605 an ideal solution for the industry's most demanding battery operated motor applications including power tools and power DC/AC inverters.

Other live demos will include Micrel's RKE solutions with the Company's MICRF302/MICRF112 MICRF220 solutions and a real time, TIMEFLASH™ MEMS oscillator programming station where design engineers will be able to program on site their own frequency needed for a system design.

There will also be several LAN solutions demonstrated including a STB using Micrel's KSZ9031, KSZ8081 and KSZ8091 Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) PHYs. A live VoIP demo using phones that were developed using Micrel's KSZ8382 VoIP ASSPs will demonstrate HD quality voice and be available for attendees to test. In addition, products enabling Cloud services for Analog devices, IoT and access control using the KSZ8342 ATA ASSP will also be displayed. Finally, there will be a demo showing digital video recording (DVR) using Micrel's KSZ9031 (Gigabit PHY) and KSZ8041 (10/100 PHY) LAN Solutions products.

Micrel's KSZ84xx EtherSynch™ product family provides system designers with one of the most compact IEEE 1588v2 network attachment devices available, significantly reducing size, power consumption, as well as overall BOM costs. The innovative EtherSynch™ technology combines Ethernet communications, IEEE 1588v2 distributed synchronization, and precision GPIO in a highly integrated, energy-efficient single-chip.
