IN THE NEWS: TECHNOLOGY TURNS UP SOME ANSWERSS IN MISSING JET SAGA KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) _ So far no one knows the answer to the question ``where is it?'' But technology is trying to provide some of the pieces to the puzzle of what happened to that missing Malaysia Airlines flight. The plane has been gone for more than a week now _ disappearing from radar during an overnight flight with a 12-person crew and 227 passengers. Satellite data suggest the plane flew for at least 7 1/2 hours after radar lost track of it. And experts say whoever disabled the plane's communication systems and then flew the jet must have had a high degree of technical knowledge and flying experience. Authorities believe the plane was deliberately diverted _ with piracy, hijacking or possible pilot suicide among the possible scenarios. IN THE NEWS: U.S. GIVES UP CONTROL OF INTERNET ADDRESS SYSTEM SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The U.S. government is quitting the name game. In this case, the names in question are those that direct traffic on the Internet. The government will no longer control the Internet's address system. The decision announced Friday begins a long-planned transition affecting who runs the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers _ or ICANN. The not-for-profit agency was launched in 1998 by the U.S. Commerce Department to govern the system that assigns Web site addresses. The U.S. wants to be out of the Internet naming business by September, 2015. Proposals for a new ICANN stewardship will be accepted beginning next week at a conference in Singapore. ON THE WEB: PANDORA RATES HELD STEADY BY JUDGE CYBERSPACE (AP) _ A federal judge in New York has left the rate that Internet radio giant Pandora must pay songwriters unchanged. ASCAP reports the judge is leaving the rate at 1.85 per cent of Pandora's revenue for the next two years. ASCAP _ which collects royalties for some 500,000 artists and publishers in the U.S _ takes issue with the ruling. It claims the market rate for Internet radio is much higher than the rate set by the judge. Online: Pandora site: http://www.pandora.com IN STORES: OBAMA'S APPERANCE ON ``BETWEEN TWO FERNS'' REACHES 15 MILLION VIEWS NEW YORK (AP) _ President Barack Obama's is getting close to Justin Bieber levels _ at least when it comes to Internet hits on his latest video. The president's appearance on the ``Between Two Ferns'' satirical online talk show has reached the 15 million view mark. The Web site Funny or Die says Obama's interview with Zach Galifianakis, will probably surpass Bieber's record of nearly 18 million views. The head of the comic site boasts the Obama's appearance to urge young people to sign up for health care is a key moment for the Internet _ much like the Kennedy-Nixon debate was for TV back in the 1960 presidential election.
