This selection is effective on immediate basis. Before serving as chairman and CEO of General Motors, Akerson was placed as a managing director of The Carlyle Group, and has also served as chairman, chief executive officer, or president of several major firms also to include XO Communications, Nextel Communications, General Instrument Corporation, and MCI Communications.
