Portugal wireline connections reached 4.5 mln last year [ICT Monitor Worldwide]


(ICT Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Portugal ended 2013 with 4.5 million fixed telephony connections, a 0.1 percent decline from the previous quarter and down 0.6 percent from the year before, according to figures released by Anacom. The penetration rate of main telephone accesses reached 43.2 percent, while the penetration rate for residential customers with direct access stood at 55.4 percent. Access to the fixed telephone service via internet rose 3.2 percent in 2013, while other types of access (analogue, GSM/UMTS, RDIS) falling. The number of public telephone booths reached 22.000, down 1.8 percent quarter-on-quarter and of 5 percent year-on-year. In December, the Portugal Telecom group had 56.4 percent of total main accesses, followed by the Zon Optimus group (31.2%), Vodafone (6.4%), Cabovisao (5%), Oni Telecom (0.6%) and other alternative operators (0.5%). Total revenues from the fixed telephony service, both stand-alone and as part of service packages, amounted to EUR 1.5 billion, up 0.9 percent from the year before.
