Spain : 80 million euros for SMEs to get on board with the Future Internet [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) An open day will be held on 10 March at ACCIONA's corporate headquarters to inform local and domestic SMEs about their possibilities of securing European funding for innovation in information and communication technologies.

As part of the FINESCE R&D project, on 10 March next ACCIONA's corporate headquarters will be hosting an open day to introduce SMEs from Madrid and all over Spain to the European Community subsidies for adapting or developing technologies compatible with the "future Internet". A total of 80 million euros of aid will be available, to cover up to 75% of the investment made by each enterprise.

These European subsidies form part of the third stage of the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP) programme, which has enabled an open (free of charge), 100% European, standard Internet service platform to be developed with an eye to favouring the adaptation and generation of new web applications and making business creation over the Internet simpler and more accessible. The objective of the Open Day is to demonstrate the array of possible uses this platform has and to spread its use among European companies. The advantages that SMEs will gain by adapting to this new standard include greater agility in developing their applications, management cost savings and support in dissemination.

ACCIONA, together with other companies, like Ericsson, E.ON and Alcatel, and prestigious universities and research centres, like RWTH Aachen, is participating in the FINESCE research project, which focuses on validating the different applications of smart networks or "future Internet" for optimizing energy management in different contexts, such as factories, homes, offices, renewable energy production plants and electric cars. ACCIONA has integrated the small-scale energy systems that self-power one of its corporate office buildings and the weather forecasting equipment and energy consumption monitoring and management systems it has at the Acciona Infraestructuras R&D centre into the new standardized European platform, to demonstrate the platform's applications in creating a "smart power grid".

In addition to showing technology-based entrepreneurs, start-ups and small and medium enterprises the funding possibilities within their reach, the Open Day also provides a specific space where participants can network with one another and interact with representatives of the major companies involved in the project.

The end objective of the Future Internet Public-Private Partnership programme, beyond establishing a "common language" for data exchange on a European scale, is to take steps toward harmonizing legislation on this subject and toward the design of a digital agenda for Europe that will enable progress to be made toward a single digital market for the continent, to sharpen the competitiveness of European companies.
