Quipper Platform Raises £3.4m ($5.8m)

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London (PRWEB) March 08, 2014 Quipper, the London-based mobile learning company led by Masa Watanabe, a co-founder of Japanese mobile social gaming giant DeNA, today announced that it has raised £3.4m ($5.8m) funding for its cloud-based web platforms, which enable users to create educational content and monitor and assess students’ performance. The round was financed by Atomico, Benesse Holdings and Globis Capital Partners, among others. This brings Quipper’s total funding raised to over $10 million. It follows their previous funding round in 2012, and will help Quipper continue to improve their mobile learning platforms, while expanding aggressively throughout the world.

The news comes after solid growth of the company’s flagship Quipper School service in Asia, along with their continuing work in the US. Quipper School allows teachers to set class assignments directly to their students' computers and mobile devices, as well as monitor and assess student performance with sophisticated analytics. The service is particularly suited to ‘flipped learning’, and allows teachers to upload their own content to use with their classes. Students can study on any device with a web browser, including smartphones and tablets, and benefit from fun gamification and social features while they learn.

Quipper has also been working with Japanese publishing giant Benesse to develop a large-scale data-driven learning service trial for tablets. Users were segmented into different categories such as ‘Social Learning’, ‘Gamified Learning’ and ‘Adaptive Learning’, and each given different functions and features. By analysing users’ behaviour, Quipper was able to identify key trends that improved retention and student attainment. In total, Quipper’s apps have over 8.5 million downloads across the world, with educational content spanning over 300,000 questions.
