Hackers behind South Korean phone giant's mega data theft arrested [Asian News International]

(Asian News International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London, Mar. 07 (ANI): Hackers who yielded personal details of 12 millions customers form one of South Korea's biggest phone companies have reportedly been arrested.

The hackers had accessed bank details, home addresses and employment information for three-quarters of KT Corp's 16 million registered users and sold this data to another man identified only as Park.

One of the suspects, identified only by surname Kim, used his own customized hacking program to hack into the computer system used by KT.

According to CNN, Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Lee Sang-Won said that Park, who owns a telemarketing business, used the information to sell cell phones posing as a KT representative and the two suspects made 10.8 million dollars from the scheme, dating back to February 2013.

Meanwhile, a third person who was initially implicated in the case has been released and police officials have expanded their investigation to other hacking activities and other cell phone sales stores, the report added.

KT has reportedly said that it will actively cooperate with the police investigation to 'minimize the damage to its customers' and 'figure out the route of information leakage'. (ANI) (c) 2014 aninews.in All rights reserved. Provided by Syndigate.info, an Albawaba.com company
