CCA Annual Conference highlights key threats facing Council data security

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London - The CCA Local Government Conference heard on Friday from cyber-security experts. Introduced by Brandon Lewis MP, Parliamentary Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and wrapped up by Ronald Duncan, Chairman of the world's leading transactional cloud platform cloudBuy, the session covered the major threats facing Council data security across Britain.

Duncan identified the following key points to come out of the Cyber Security for Local Councillors Breakout session: "Some Councils are being pushed into spending huge amounts on unnecessary levels of security, when DCLG is constantly reducing budgets and asking Councils to cut costs." "Central Government departments are saving substantial amounts using g-cloud e.g. cloudBuy's provision of a cloud hosted intranet, which allows a Bring your own device policy (BYOD), and we have seen councils spending significant amounts and reversing their BYOD implementation because of inappropriate security recommendations." "Councillors are advised to be very careful about using Social Media in political debate, as shown by the case in Margate where a Councillor has been interviewed by police under caution after liking a post on Facebook." The Cyber Security for Local Councillors session featured the following speakers: - Brandon Lewis MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Local Government - Cllr Paul Bettison, Bracknell Forest Council - Ronald Duncan, Chairman & CIO, cloudBuy - Cllr Simon Moores, Thanet District Council & Vice Chairman of Conservative Technology Forum For more information on cloudBuy please visit, www.cloudBuy.com About cloudBuy cloudBuy, formerly @UK, is the world's leading transactional Cloud Platform.
