Multi-Tech Showcases Ease of Use of Its M2M Technology at Mobile World Congress

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Barcelona, Spain (PRWEB) February 25, 2014 Multi-Tech Systems, a leader in M2M communications products, announced today hardware solutions being featured at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Demonstrations utilizing Multi-Tech’s technology, highlight the company’s commitment in providing hardware solutions that are seamless for application developers right out of the box.

“We continue to provide hardware solutions that are not only robust, but easy to use and flexible,” said Rod Landers, Multi-Tech’s CEO. “We are excited that attendees can now see, in action, the potential of our offerings.” Multi-Tech and AT&T Multi-Tech’s MultiConnect® rCell 100, from its Router family, and Device Management Platform will be showcased at work in AT&T’s booth (Connected City - Hall 3 Stand 3A11). A mock coffee shop will be set up in the booth to demonstrate how mobile network operator can better control data and how it flows.

“It used to be that we were just sending data from point A to point B. Now we strive to control how you get that information into the cloud and manage it from there,” said David Smith, VP, Advanced Programs at Multi-Tech Systems and creator of the solution. “Because of the flexibility of Multi-Tech’s Routers, and the versatility of our device management platform, we were able to rapidly develop this in three weeks, from beginning to end. Combining hardware and software solutions, the demonstration utilizes four iPads, two Multi-Tech MultiConnect rCell 100 intelligent wireless routers and Multi-Tech’s device management platform.” Designed for any application, Multi-Tech’s MultiConnect rCell provides functionality that maximizes the user experience, ensuring a high level of performance and the power necessary to withstand the rigors of any application.

Multi-Tech’s Device Management Platform is designed to allow M2M platform providers and vertical market application developers the ability to easily integrate Multi-Tech’s broad device management functionality into their solutions. This gives end users increased control over their applications and the hardware endpoints, and helps to avoid costly truck rolls to update or reset remote devices.

Multi-Tech and ARM In the Multi-Tech and ARM demonstration (booth Hall 8.1 Stand CC8.7), mock sensors for a model home are set up utilizing Multi-Tech’s SocketModem® Shield from the company’s Embedded product line. Data from the home sensors is sent via the Internet to a cloud allowing users access to all information when and how they need it.

The SocketModem® Shield uses the SocketModem® iCell, which features Multi-Tech’s proprietary cellular network management functions, such as persistent connectivity and auto-connect. As the only Arduino Shield with full PTCRB certification and AT&T approval, the SocketModem Shield allows developers to develop, test, and build without needing to undergo additional certification for cellular communications. Offering HSPA+ cellular performance utilizing the Telit HE910 module, the Shield also leverages the Freescale Freedom FRDM-KL46Z and ARM mbed development platforms.

“Because the Shield leverages our industry certified, carrier-approved and easy-to-use SocketModem iCell product with ARM’s mbed platform for developing smart devices, it is seamless and quick to develop new and innovative applications, said Daniel Quant, VP, Product Management & Marketing at Multi-Tech Systems. “We’re excited to see how developers will utilize our direct to manufacturing SocketShield to bring to market a new breed of IoT applications faster and cheaper.” Multi-Tech and Chemring Technology Solutions Chemring Technology Solutions (Hall 7, Stand 7C14, UKTI Pavilion) will be demonstrating how SmartSwitch and Multi-Tech’s M2M platform can enable network operators to maximize monetization opportunities for next generation apps, without impacting real-time service reliability.

SmartSwitch’s advanced policy engine supports M2M applications by intelligently matching the priority of the data to a mobile network’s preferred times (such as a pre-defined off-peak schedule). This will maximize M2M system development opportunities, such as telehealth or industrial applications, without congesting mobile networks.

Rod Landers, CEO of Multi-Tech, stated, “I’m really excited to see this technology getting deployed and we are very flattered that Chemring chose Multi-Tech’s products to demonstrate SmartSwitch at Mobile World Congress. We see this as an important tool for M2M applications and network operators to more efficiently manage their traffic and costs of service which will further accelerate growth in the Internet of Things.” About Multi-Tech Systems Multi-Tech Systems has been delivering industry-leading M2M communications solutions since 1970.
