Leupold & Stevens Inc., the Beaverton sports-optics company, names chief executive [The Oregonian, Portland, Ore. :: ]


(Oregonian (Portland, OR) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 24--Leupold & Stevens Inc., the Beaverton maker of sports-optics equipment, on Monday named Bruce Pettet its chief executive. His start date is March 17.

For the past 10 years, Pettet has been chief executive of Collective International LLC, a brand development and licensing company based in Denver. Collective's brands, focused on the youth lifestyle market, are sold in more than 100 countries.



Collective's roster includes Airwalk International, the BMX, skate, snow and surf brand that Pettet led as chief executive from June 2000 to December 2003.

Prior to Airwalk, Pettet was chief executive of Brooks Sports Inc., the running company in Bothell, Wash. He has also served as board chairman of Famous Brands International, which includes Mrs. Fields and TCBY yogurt brands.


Pettet has been named one of the Marketing 100 by Advertising Age magazine, a designation of the top marketers in the country, and Sporting Goods Business named him an "Industry Pacesetter." Outside of the office, Pettet is an avid hunter and outdoorsman and is a member of Safari Club International, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the National Rifle Association.

Family owned and privately operated, Leupold & Stevens employs more than 600 people. Its product line includes rifle, handgun and spotting scopes; binoculars; laser rangefinders; mounting systems; and optical tools and accessories.
