Music and I Are Practically Inseparable - Lolo [interview](AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Loloipirma Eremie simply known as Lolo, is a talented singer-songwriter, poet, playwright and would-be filmmaker, whose progress in the art industry has remained astounding. The multitalented creative artiste has also, made great impact in the country as an Advertising (APCON), Marketing (NIMN) and Public Relations (NIPR) practitioner. The Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, born Foreign Languages and Literatures graduate of the University of Port-Harcourt, is the author and voice behind the famous MTN Classic tune "Y'hello, Yello Christmas'. In this interview, lolo who is dubbed the 'Hostess with the mostest', and one of the few ladies running the circuit on the Nigerian underground/live music scene, has more about her job and experience. Read on Bogobiri experience? The Bogobiri Open Mic Night is best described as an underground, art-movement. It's a great hub for creative artists (amateurs and professionals), talented people and enthusiasts alike. We all get together weekly to sing live music with a band accompaniment, perform poetry or spoken word as now commonly referred and network in general. The rules are: 'there are no rules'. As long as its fun and also promotes peace and harmony. Well, for one we're live performers so you get to interact with us firsthand, plus every now and then we have percussionists and basic African instruments so you experience the beat of the African live drums. Also, the Bogobiri ambiance, lodging, food and decor remain an amazing experience to first-timers and regulars. There are also talks of expansion across several cities and countries in future by the Management. Personally, I can't wait, because I think it's about time the world had a taste of the Bogobiri Culture. What kind of artiste do you feature? The list of artistes is endless and as for the kind, just last week we featured Ajebutter 22 and Poe. We usually have an influx of mainstream artists every now and then, from the likes of Asa to Keziah Jones, Jeffery Daniels, Paul Play, Durella, Bez, Moses (Idols Nigeria), Praiz, AYO (Project Fame), Timi Dakolo, Eric Arubayi, Ochuko (Project Fame), Victoria Kimani, Kenneth Okolie, Gideon Okeke, Nneka, Capital F.E.M.I, alongside veterans like Jimi Solanke, Duro Ikujenyo etc Other involvement? As a performing act, I perform at corporate and private functions as lead singer of a live group called 'Lolo & the Bogo Band'. I also host shows and events with some interesting content in the pipeline for the internet and television. In 2013,1 literally exercised my rights as a free-moral agent, having ended an 8-year long stint with a reputable telecoms firm here in Nigeria. Now, when I'm not recording in the studio, performing at live events or hosting Open Mic at the Bogobiri House, I run a busy schedule managing my private practice as an Advertising, PR & Marketing Consultant with my firm, Lodein Entertainment Ltd. Expectations this year? 2014 already has me veering off into Artist & Repertoire (A&R) and Film-making with my first movie in tow titled 'Guyn Man'. The film will be starring: Okey Uzoeshi, Yvonne Okoro, Bryan Okwara, Bimbo Akintola, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Omoye 'Brownie' Uzamere, Fred Amata, Ijeoma Aniebo and Adesua Etomi to mention a few. When did you begin your music career? More like music is in me (laughter)... I've always been into music and we're practically inseparable. Iam glad though that I've found my niche as a live performer. You don't feel the electricity as much over my audio recordings (laughter) but catch me live first... Aha!. I see music as not just a form of entertainment but a tool for social reform and I try to convey key messages via this medium. My kind of music is a very subtle fusion of Afro Jazz vibes, Soul and up-tempo R&B. And, I already have two new singles, "Do Am Well", produced by Phat E, the producer of J'odie's "Kuchi Kuchi" which is dedicated to any hard-working Nigerian and African out there and "Please Don't Make It Hurt", produced by P-Loops. Both singles are slated for the original soundtrack of 'Guyn Man'. Your interest in other genres? I'm more interested in filmmaking, acting and writing at the moment. I hope to have at least a feature film and a short out within the year, the book might be a tall order in 2014 but we'll see how it goes. Copyright Vanguard.
