Canadians took stricter measures after a U-S outbreak began first. Canadian Swine Health Board executive director Robert Harding says porcine epidemic diarrhea in the United States last May gave the pig industry and governments here a ``heads up.'' The highly contagious virus has killed millions of piglets in the U-S but poses no risk to human health. (10) (Sask-Mine-Fire) Dozens of workers at a potash mine in Saskatchewan have escaped injury after a fire broke out underground. More than 50 people went to shelters at the Agrium facility near Vanscoy after the fire started during a shift last night. The site's general manager says the fire started on a piece of equipment with a fire suppression system. However, it didn't put out the blaze. The fire was extinguished this morning. (10) (Oly Canada) Canada is still picking up medals at the Winter Olympics and longtrack speedskater Denny Morrison has his second. The B-C native finished a surprising third in the men's 15-hundred metre event today. He wasn't expected to get a medal in the individual competitions. Earlier, Morrison claimed a silver medal in the men's one-thousand metre race. (10) (US-Traffic-Gridlock) (Audio: 88) A Japanese monster-sized traffic jam is causing big headaches in Los Angeles. It's been nicknamed ``Jamzilla.'' A 10-kilometre stretch of the 405 freeway is virtually shut down until Tuesday due to construction. About 150-thousand vehicles normally use the 405. (10) (Volkswagen-Union) A multi-year effort to organize Volkswagen's only U-S plant in Tennessee was defeated last night on a 712-626 vote. The group of workers in the plant that organized to fight the United Auto Workers, says members were unwilling to risk hurting the plant. One of the workers called the plant -- quote -- ``the greatest thing that's ever happened to us.'' Southern Republicans are expressing relief that the union didn't manage to gain its first win in a foreign automaker in the South. (10) (ENT-Angry-Birds) Get ready for Angry Birds, the movie -- and it is being made in Vancouver. Finnish video-game developer Rovio Entertainment says it has picked Sony Pictures Imageworks's Vancouver studio to be the primary animation house for the upcoming flick. The game has become a worldwide hit with multiple versions, in which players use a slingshot to launch colourful but irate birds toward green pigs.
