Promising Newcomers in Communications and Marketing Advancement Win Honor

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 -- The Council for Advancement and Support of Education issued the following news release: Four communications and marketing practitioners new to the field of educational advancement have been named SimpsonScarborough Scholars (http://www.case.org/Conferences_and_Training/Conference_Scholarships/Simpson_Scarborough_Scholars.html).

The program supports the professional development of promising young communications and marketing practitioners in the educational advancement profession. Scholars receive many benefits, including CASE premier membership and attendance at a CASE conference and webinar.

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education administer the scholarships, which are sponsored by SimpsonScarborough (http://simpsonscarborough.com/), a leading communications and marketing consulting firm specializing in higher education. The program honors the memory of Christopher Simpson, one of the firm's founding partners who passed away in 2008.

"It's a privilege to continue to honor his contributions to the advancement industry by supporting promising communications and marketing practitioners who are newcomers to the field," says Elizabeth Scarborough, the firm's chief executive. "The benefits and networking opportunities associated with the scholarship are terrific." This year's SimpsonScarborough Scholars are: * Amanda Darling, communications director at the Lakeside School in Seattle, Wash. Darling came to Lakeside in 2011 with a background and several years of experience in marketing but without previous independent school communications experience. She went on to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan for the school with clear strategies that its leaders could follow. Daiga E. Galins, Lakeside's director of development, wrote in her nomination letter: "Amanda's communications career in education is still in its early stages, but already it shows tremendous promise and leadership... I have no doubt that Amanda will one day be the communications guru that others in the independent school world will turn to for guidance." * Ryan Denham, writer at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. Denham came to Illinois State in 2012 after several years as a newspaper and radio reporter. Since then, he has launched a popular daily blog featuring multimedia content, crafted a new social media strategic plan for the institution and helped produce content for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the alumni association. Susan Glystone, associate director of university marketing and communications, wrote in her nomination letter: "The university as a whole is benefitting from Ryan's work and vision as he has found a way to bring communications across campus together." * Samantha Mellinger, alumni affairs coordinator at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Ga. Mellinger came to Georgia Regents in 2011 after working as an account executive at a local marketing firm. Since joining the institution, she has helped effectively communicate with alumni in a time of significant transition--as Georgia Health Science University and Augusta State University recently merged to become Georgia Regents. Kristina B. Baggott, associate vice president of alumni affairs and special events, wrote in her nomination letter: "Samantha is a young marketing professional who ... has the initiative and drive that will be critical to advancing in this profession and has become a key part of the [Georgia Regents] alumni team in a relatively short period of time." * Jamie Saxon, humanities writer at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. Saxon came to Princeton in 2012 after work as a newspaper reporter and editor for a nonfiction book publisher, among other jobs. Since, she has created the university's first arts-specific Twitter account and founded an on-campus networking group of arts communications professionals. Steve Runk, director of communications for the university's Lewis Center for the Arts, wrote in his nomination letter: "She has brought her knowledge of arts and culture and effective communications now into the realm of higher education with demonstrated results and promising possibilities."
