Durham Offers Free Broadband Telecommunications Job Training(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 31 -- The city of Durham issued the following news: Durham residents interested in receiving training needed for full-time employment in the broadband telecommunications industry should apply now for the City of Durham's Broadband Telecommunications Training Program. Administered by the N.C. Institute for Minority Economic Development (NCIMED) on behalf of the City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the 16-week free training program will teach the skills needed to secure full-time employment in the broadband telecommunications industry. As part of this training program, participants will learn how to install and troubleshoot cable, telephone and Internet service issues; practice equipment testing using the appropriate tools; and study industry standards and customer service. Residents interested in applying for the final session of this training program should attend one of two application and interview sessions scheduled for Monday, February 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Durham County Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St., and Wednesday, February 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Walltown Recreation Center, 1308 W. Club Blvd. Participants accepted into the training will then be enrolled in the 112-hour Time Warner Broadband Technician Training Program and the Human Resource Development Program at Durham Technical Community College. This no-cost training will provide preparation that allows participants to qualify as entry-level technicians for employment in the broadband telecommunications in both cable television or telecommunications. The training is being provided through a grant secured by the City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development from the N.C. Department of Commerce's Division of Workforce Solutions.
