USTDA Fostering U.S. Company Participation in Colombia's Power Market Platform

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 The U.S. Trade and Development Agency is hosting a reverse trade mission (RTM) from March 16 to 26, 2014 to bring senior officials representing XM Compañía de Expertos en Mercados S.A. E.S.P. (XM) – Colombia’s power market administrator and system operator – and Colombian government regulatory agency officials, to the U.S. to meet with U.S. companies offering Power Market Management Systems (MMS) IT services, as well as settlement and billing technologies and solutions, used by U.S. independent system operators (ISOs) and regional transmission organizations (RTOs). The RTM itinerary will include meetings and site visits in Washington, DC, Raleigh, NC, Austin, TX, Folsom, CA and Silicon Valley, CA.

Due to increasing pressure for more effective management of electricity consumption and distribution in the Colombian wholesale electricity market, especially commercial trading and the market’s financial management, the Colombian government and energy utilities are addressing options for developing processes for administering the wholesale power market. Currently management of transactions depends on numerous legacy systems. Therefore, XM is pursuing the implementation of a market management system – a technology solution to manage electrical power markets – to improve the reliability and availability of the information of the country’s National Interconnected System, as well as to reduce the operational costs and support the implementation of energy-efficiency measures and renewable energy projects in the country. With this goal, XM expects to release a request for proposals by the end of 2014 for the purchase of the MMS and supporting IT services.

The 11-day itinerary will facilitate the exchange of information regarding the commercial, technological and financial aspects of U.S. MMS solutions and assist the Colombian executives and officials in preparing for XM’s upcoming procurement process. U.S. companies are being encouraged to participate in this RTM through:    •      Attending the full-day business briefing at USTDA headquarters in Arlington, VA on Tuesday, March 18    •     Hosting the delegation at their facilities to discuss their expertise and capabilities    •     Arranging a site visit “in the field” to demonstrate technology in use    •     Sponsoring the RTM or sponsoring a private dinner or lunch meeting with the delegation This RTM is being organized on behalf of USTDA by The Webster Group, a top Washington D.C. event and meeting planning company, in collaboration with Emerging Markets Infrastructure (EMI) and 3E Consulting.
