Dobbins Appointed to CADCA Board

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 24 -- Southeast Missouri State University issued the following news release: Kenneth W. Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), the nation's leading substance abuse prevention organization.

Dobbins brings more than 30 years of experience in academic administration to CADCA's diverse Board of Directors.

"CADCA's goal of building, strengthening and expanding community coalitions to establish and maintain safe, drug-free communities is vital to our country and beyond. I am looking forward to providing a higher education perspective to CADCA's board of distinguished and dedicated members," Dobbins said.

Gen. Arthur Dean, CADCA chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Higher Ed. leaders know alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by their students affects their ability to learn and diminishes their potential. That's why we're excited to welcome Dr. Dobbins to our Board of Directors. His long-time experience in higher education greatly enhances our ability to address alcohol and drug use among college students, and we look forward to working with him as we continue to make our communities safe, healthy and drug-free." Dobbins became the 17th president of Southeast Missouri State University on July 1, 1999, after serving as the University's Vice President of Finance and Administration from 1991 to 1993, and Executive Vice President from 1993 until his appointment as president. He previously held several positions in higher education administration at Kent State University in Ohio. During his tenure at Southeast, academic programs have been enhanced including the establishment of the College of Science, Technology, and Agriculture and the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. A comprehensive review of all academic and non-academic programs has been accomplished to maintain quality and minimize student fee increases in the face of significant state appropriation reductions. Southeast continues to be recognized nationally for many of its outstanding accredited academic programs. Dobbins served as chair for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) in 2010-2011, and is one of five presidents teaching in AASCU's academy for newly appointed presidents. He is the vice president of membership and a member of the executive board of the Greater St. Louis Council Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Board of Directors and chairs the Finance Committee of the American Academic Leadership Institute.
