NERI Certified as Woman-Owned Business

WATERTOWN, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

New England Research Institutes (NERI) has been formally certified as a women-owned business by the National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC). Although NERI's President, Sonja McKinlay, has been a majority share-holder since NERI's inception, the company is now certified.

"Certification by the NWBOC is a great opportunity for NERI to provide our clients with supplier diversity and validates our commitment to customer service," says McKinlay. "Being a certified woman-owned business stimulates prospective partnerships with other pharma, biotech, and medical device companies that can also result in business growth."

The NWBOC was established in 1995 to increase competition for corporate and government contracts through implementation of a national certification program for women business owners. Only a small fraction of corporate and government contracts are with women-owned firms. This may negatvely affect the ability of women business owners to penetrate some markets and thus limit their business growth. The NWBOC certification process is thorough, involving several levels of verification, including an in-person site visit by an independent evaluator.

In addition to being woman-owned, NERI offers a stimulating and supportive environment for women of all skill levels to pursue careers in public health, epidemiology, statistics, and other health-related sciences. Approximately 70% of NERI's full-time employees are female, and approximately 90% of NERI supervisors are female.

"NERI actively promotes a healthy work-life balance and strives to eliminate barriers to women's advancement in the workplace," says Sandra Siami, NERI vice-president for clinical and regulatory affairs.

NERI is a global, privately held specialty Contract Research Organization providing customized clinical trial solutions and patient registry services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, biomaterial and medical device companies. In addition to being certified as woman-owned, NERI qualifies as a "small business" for government procurement activities. NERI has extensive experience collaborating on federally-funded research with organizations like the National Institutes of Health. Since its founding in 1986, NERI has earned widespread recognition for its scientific credibility, efficiency, and expertise in conducting clinical trials in a variety of medical specialties.
