Audit of Hogansville budget shows 'improvement' [LaGrange Daily News, Ga. :: ]

(LaGrange Daily News (GA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 22--The city of Hogansville's audit showed "tremendous improvement," according to Stephan Wilcox of the accounting firm Wilcox & Bivings.

Wilcox said total revenues for the city increased by $1.73 million, though total expenses had increased by $243,000. Wilcox said the economic vision for the city should be to work towards improving operating costs and debt position. The total long-term debt for the city is $12.9 million. The audit report covered the city's fiscal year from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

City Manager James Woods said the report was great news.

"This is the first time in over 12 years that the city has operated without growing concern," he said.

In other news, council approved a moratorium that would restrict heavy trucks from traveling on Mountville-Hogansville Road, Bass Cross Road and Mobley Bridge Road without having a nearby delivery destination. This moratorium would hold for the next 90 days while the staff works to make the legislative changes necessary to implement the change, said Woods. The current ordinance states that heavy trucks that are on city streets are in violation if they do not have a permit, or if they are not specifically making a delivery or a pick-up to or from a residence with in the city limits.

Council continued the discussion on hosting monthly town hall meetings, the first to be held at 6p.m. Feb. 20.

Citizens who would like to speak on a concern at the town hall meetings would have to fill out a form by Feb. 18 to be placed on the agenda. Woods will be drafting the forms and they will also be distributed with utility bills after Jan. 25.

Rules and guidelines for the town hall meetings will be discussed at the next council meeting. The meetings would be held the third Thursday of every month.
